CNMC proposes discount on access to gas network and exempts renewable gas from tolls

MADRID, Jan 21 (Reuters) - The Spanish competition regulator proposed on Tuesday, among other measures aimed at improving the use of the gas system and reducing its impact on the environment, a discount of 13.9% on tolls paid by consumers and retailers for using gas networks.

In a circular sent to the Council of State for analysis, the National Commission for Markets and Competition also proposed that the injection of renewable gases into local networks will not pay tolls.

"The modifications introduced are aimed at maximizing the use of the gas system, increasing the competitiveness of regasification plants, taking into account the competitiveness of the industrial sector and encouraging the injection of biomethane and other gases of renewable origin, thus contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the fight against climate change," said the regulator.
